Minor Bantams in OBA's
The Ilderton Lucan Red Sox competed in the Ontario Baseball Association Minor Bantam B Championships this past weekend in St. Thomas. The Red Sox finished the weekend with 2 wins and 2 losses in the 12 team double knockout tournament.
In Game 1 Friday morning the Red Sox took on the Essex Yellow Jackets. Led by a complete game pitching performance from Hunter Russell, the Sox defeated Essex by a score of 12-2. Game 2 saw the boys come up against a strong team from Ancaster. The Sox got off to a quick start jumping to a 4-1 lead, however a string of untimely defensive miscues lead to 4 unearned runs and eventually a 8-5 defeat. Saturday morning the Ilderton Lucan boys took on the Aurora Blue Jays. Strong starting pitching and key hits throughout the lineup propelled the Sox to a 10-8 win. Game 4 saw the Sox take on a very strong and eventual Ontario Champion Kawartha Cubs. The local boys took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning, unfortunately that was the high point of the game. The Cubs led by great infield defense and solid hitting took the game over and eventually won 15-5.
Although the boys did not win OBA's it was a great tournament to play in and be part of. This group of Lucan and Ilderton kids came together and really improved as the season progressed in our first year playing in the LDBA. Thanks to all the boys and parents for a great season.
