Girls Rep Softball PWSA Championships 2024
As our season winds down, our growing girls program had a lot of success this year. Congratulations to all our players. The following rep teams competed on the weekend all bringing some bling back to Lucan Ilderton.
U17 Rep - Gold Medal - "A" Grand Valley League Championship
Our U17 Girls Rep team entered the Grand Valley closing weekend as the #2 seed in the “A” playoffs. Things kicked off Saturday with 3 round robin games against some tough teams. Our girls battled hard and earned three victories, with a 7-0 defeat of the UTM Impact, followed by a 12-3 victory over Stratford Flames and ending the day with a 7-0 win over the tournament host London Lightning Red.
Our successful Saturday (3-0) propelled us into Sunday’s semi-final against Palmerston Black. In a hard-fought pitcher’s duel, with some great defense, we came away with a 3-0 victory. Regan Jacklin pitched a complete game 3-hit shutout, with Paige Borman and Bridget O’hara picking up some key RBIs.
Sunday afternoon’s final pitted us against the regular season leaders, and tier 1 Ontario Summer Games bronze medalists, Huron Perth Nationals. Pitching and defense were once again front and centre as we came away victorious 4-1, earning the Gold medal as Grand Valley Champions. Andie Armstrong led the way on the mound with a complete game masterpiece. Megan Henderson got the party started early with a big first inning homerun putting us in front 3-0 after the top of the 1st, and we never looked back. Several nice defensive plays helped to hold off the powerful Huron Perth offense throughout the game and crown your 2024 U17 Grand Valley Champions! Congratulations to our girls on an extremely special season so far that will continue next week as we travel out east to compete at the U17 Eastern Canadian Championships in New Brunswick!
Thank you to our parents and extended families for your positivity and support throughout another successful season.
U15 SR Rep - Bronze Medal - "A" Grand Valley League Championship
Last weekend, the Lucan-Ilderton U15 Senior Softball Team demonstrated incredible resilience. Despite facing challenges and injuries, they went 4-0 in pool play and fought hard in playoffs. Although they fell to Waterloo Black, they secured a Bronze medal in a tough match against Cambridge Blue. The team's perseverance and unwavering support for one another are a testament to their strength and unity. Special thanks to the Coaches for fostering this culture of care and determination. Next up: Eastern Canadian Softball Championships Fredericton, NB, August 22-25.
U15 JR Rep - Bronze Medal - "B" Grand Valley League Championship
Congratulations to our Girls U15 Jr Rep Team as they closed out their season with a Bronze medal at the Grand Valley "B" Championships this past weekend. The girls finished August with an 8-3 record and outscored their opponents 130-66 this month! Way to go A's!
U11 Rep - Silver medal at PWSA qualifiers in Saugeen
This past weekend, our Lucan Ilderton U11 Girls team showcased their determination and skill, ultimately earning a Provincial Qualifier Silver Medal. The weekend began with a hard-fought game against Chatham, where we narrowly lost in extra innings, 8-7. Undeterred, the girls bounced back with decisive victories over Wyoming and LaSalle, winning 15-5 and 10-0, respectively. On Sunday morning, they faced a tough Corunna team, securing a 9-2 win. With a medal on the line, the girls rose to the occasion against Leamington, winning 14-7. In their third consecutive game, they found themselves down 4-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning against Chatham but rallied to a thrilling 8-4 victory. Unfortunately, in the gold medal game—our fourth in a row—the team ran out of gas and lost to LaSalle, but we are incredibly proud to come home with the silver.
