Lucan Ilderton Major Rookie 2016 Season
Submitted By Sean Willis on Sun 04 24, 16
Good Evening Everyone,

I would like to welcome you to our 2016 season of Lucan Ilderton Major Rookie.

Now that our Major Rookie Competitive team has been selected, we are now in the process of making rosters and assigning coaches for our Major Rookie house league teams.  We will be running 4 teams of Major Rookie in the Bermuda Triangle League out of London, 2 teams from Ilderton and 2 teams from Lucan.  Other teams included in this league come from North London and Oakridge.  We have found that our teams match up well with teams from these organizations in terms of skill level and competition.  Feedback from the previous two years of involvement have been extremely positive.

With that being said, there are a few house keeping things I would like to address.  First is our Hit Run and Throw event, scheduled for Saturday June 4 in Ilderton at Heritage Park.  For those of you who have participated in the past and for those new to the event, it is a wonderful showcase for the talent of our players.  I encourage all players and teams to attend this event.  Details will be forthcoming over the next few weeks.

For uniforms, the organization will be providing all players with a hat and jersey and will be given out by the head coach prior to the first game of the year.  To complete the uniform, each player is required to have grey baseball pants and a navy blue belt.  If a player chooses to wear grey ball pants that do not go to the ankles (ie. elastic bottoms), we require them to wear navy blue socks.  Shorts, blue jeans or sweat pants are not accepted as part of the players uniform.  Pants, belts and socks can be purchased through Pete's Sports in London.  They have agreed to carry stock for our players.  Pete's Sports is also our supplier for Lucan-Ilderton Athletics Baseball spirit wear.

Regarding equipment, we expect all players to have their own glove.  Glove sizes for this age group vary from 10" to 12" depending on the size of the player.  Although the organization will supply each team with an equipment bag with balls, bats, helmets and catching equipment, we strongly encourage all players to provide their own bat and batting helmet for their own use.  An appropriate bat size would be between 27 - 29" long weighing 14 - 18 ounces with a barrel no larger than 2 5/8 inches in diameter.  As we are now playing with a hardball, we also highly recommend players wear the proper protective equipment such as a cup for boys and a jill or pelvic protection for girls.  Cleats are suggested but not essential.

Homerun Sports in London at Exeter Rd. and Wellington offers a 10% discount to families participating in Lucan Ilderton Minor Baseball and they will provide you with the proper fitting for your child in their equipment needs.

Lastly, I encourage all of you to familiarize yourself with the Lucan-Ilderton baseball website.  It functions very much the same as our minor hockey sites and is one of our main means of communication to our participants.  Our website can be found at:

Thank you and I look forward to another great season of Lucan-Ilderton baseball.
